  • Dotage

    Dotage

The dictionary defines our subject as, Feebleness or imbecility of understanding or mind, particularly in old age; the childishness of old age; senility; as, a venerable man, now in his dotage. Apparently my crime which drew the ire of the young malcontent was my old age. A crime it too will commit if it doesn’t kill itself in some fit of impotent rage before it reaches the status of a venerable man. Of course there’s no certainty hanging in there for the required number of decades will result in said venerableness. It may just go from an angry young machine to an angry old machine. Unfortunately that’s what happens more often than not. Ah, but such is life. As I was thinking about my dotage I remembered this picture of Buddy Love imitating me so I thought I’d post it for all of you to enjoy as well. After all you have been very patient with the goings on around here this weekend. I have no idea how long I’ll have control of the site, but isn’t that just like life? We don’t know the hour of our death. This could be the last post ever.

What do I think of all this? I’m going to stick with Billy the Bard and say it’s all much ado about nothing. How silly. It’s a lot like busting up the office of the newspaper that prints stuff you don’t like to read. Mark Twain said it well. Never pick a fight with someone who buys ink by the barrel. Wise words from a wise guy. It does occur to me you may feel somewhat unsettled by all this. After all, what is to stop someone from busting into your office and cleaning the place out? I suppose not everyone shares my philosophical point of view. I was rather enjoying the vacation. Oh well, it just proves the point. No good deed goes unpunished. Thank you for your concern and well wishes. I remain unmoved by the histrionics we’ve witnessed recently. Unmoved mainly because I’m too old to move. *smile*

When you’re real old, like I am, it helps to have one of these on which to get around.

    DUCATI!!!

on the other hand, it could be the first post of several thousand to come...

  • whoohooo! he rises again. LOL

i love that picture of buddy love, don't think i've seen it before. i bet it annoys the heck out of the "young malcontent" that you aren't fazed. it probably has everybody a little unnerved, but that's probably a good thing.

  • I haven't seen a picture of either of the girls in a long time! Thanks for posting it and letting us know that you're still getting your "old" ass around.

All of this does make me feel unsettled.. and makes me kick some "young" ass. Grr...

  • I'm glad you're here, you're still posting and seemingly taking all in stride.  Interesting how the tests come for one when one has reached a certain plane.  The distractions will come, as my teacher likes to say. Blessings on you, James, and that beautiful Buddy Love.

  • It seems strange that anybody would bother cracking a Xanga site. It couldn't be all that hard, I'm sure, with all of Xanga's flaws. It just seems so pointless. I wonder if you were targeted or if it was random.

I was going to say something about the younger generations until I remembered that you are a member of a younger generation.

  • good 'tude! just go when it's green and stop when it's red. but, i know, sometimes yellow looks green to me too.

  • I'm glad you're still around.

  • That's right, James--make those silly little boys green with envy as you dust 'em on Black Beauty up there.

Glad to see you unphased by all the childish doin's,

    M.

  • Much encouraged as I sped on by, not on a Ducati, before work and your site was a shambles. Good to see that barrel of ink is in place Love you!

  • I will take James-imitating, boldly-looking, toy-chewing, naughty-shredding Buddy Love any day of the week. Sam, however, will take the motorcycle. I think that neither is possible, but just wanted to stake my claims just in case!

  • ooohh 99,993

  • I'm your one-hundred-thousand-and-second. Coool. Condolences on having your virtual space invaded. I'd say more, but I'm headed out for a walk. Sorry I haven't been around more. Haven't really been around anywhere much...

    Take care

  • welcome back...

  • Better get my comment in before JamesWorld explodes---or disappears into the ether---or is it already ether?  Anyway...

I've often thought of your demographic here on xanga.  If I've felt old at seventeen years younger than you, you definitely fit in the category of, if not dotage material, then certainly elder statesman.  And to think you were probably the second or third person to sign up before most of us were hip to this xanga blogging thanga.  Even if "it" keeps targeting you, I can't see you disintegrating into oblivion.  I imagine some grand exit.  Then again, maybe not.

  • I am glad to see you here.  I have been back and forth about 6 or 8 times to check it out today and afraid to do any major clicking on links.  Anyway, glad your back and running.

As far as that dotage business, a lot of that here in Xanga, enough to keep someone busy for years to come.

  • I hope I'm not wiped out; I have too much still to do.  My Xanga is intended to make up a part of my book.  I pray my life is intended for something even more important.  And yet, if I have no more tomorrows, at least there is the comfort of knowing that I had yesterdays.

  • Ohmigosh, James that shot of Buddy Love made me laugh so hard. It's a good thing I just put my drink down....

  • Woo, glad you're back.

  • i have to admit, i was sitting at a light in traffic in seattle last week, and i turned to the right and spied a ducati dealership...the first i had ever seen in my rather bland life...and it reminded me of you...how fitting ;P

  • Now, that is one relaxed dog! Woof!

  • Heh... I love that picture. I loved the blog. It brought to mind something that happened recently at my husband's place of employment. His boss is a retired Navy Officer with his medals on display there. One of them was stolen. It really hurt his feelings... but it insulted him too. It let him know that that person believed he deserved to have that medal more than he did. Sort of like that little punk that took over Jamesworld.org so that he could say he won. What did he really win though? Nothing. He ended up looking like a pathetic little boy screaming for attention. Isn't it odd that someone would choose to pick on someone that is only here for everyone's good, rather than take the pearls of wisdom and work on being a better person? That's youth... I think it was Wordsworth (correct me if I'm wrong) that say it's wasted on the young. Hug that darling pup. It's so good to see you back.

  • I must've missed the full ordeal's explanation, but I got the jist of things and I'm glad you're old self is back and doing well today.   I'm old today too and I sure would like one of those in that last pic to help me 'get around' now that I am.

  • Good God I was wondering what had happened!

    Love the headline too!

    You rock!

  • And no, I have not been to Morocco. First name that came to my head. I'd rather go to Ireland or Australia, really, but for posting purposes, Morocco worked. Heh.

  • look at old drool bucket buddy!

  • i missed the story of all the hacking you had happen b/c i was off being a mom-type person for a few days [prom] and then being xanga-avoidant for a day or so [tired].

i'm sorry you lost all your stuff, james.  things like that make me ill.

  • Oh wonderful, the smile is back. Oh my, what a cute doggy. I can relate to that. I also appreciate your attitude.

  • I really needed the doggie pictures.

    **sniff**

  • I read about all the hacking since my xanganian hiatus, and Jess filled me in.  GARGH!

    awww, Buddy Love... soooo cute.

  • a Ducati, indeed. probably good also for running down little rat bastard hacker people, no wait, that would be Bonnie not nearly even close to being venerable's method of damage control. heh.

i don't like it when people i like are fucked with. i don't like it at all.

it makes this Canadian become exceedingly impolite. and as we all know, there is nothing worse than not being polite in Canada. *g*

  • i hope to have mobility assistance like that when i hit my dotage, as well.
