    Protected

It kind of sucks that I'm not gay, African American, or one of the other groups that are protected by law. Seems the only people worthy of protection from harassment, hate, slander and death threats are minority groups. Sorry I've had to lock down the site but xanga left me no choice. They still can't keep the dogs out. After all these years you'd think they'd get it.

  • I've had to lock down mine as well, which I hate doing, but I had an outside (of Xanga) stalker, sooooooo...

  • Not only does Xanga not get it, but many people miss it too unless it's happened to them.

  • @moniet - I'd love to see people "get it", but not if it means having it happen to them. That shouldn't happen to anybody. Perhaps the Xanga Team is just too busy making all the upgrades that they don't have the time to shut down all the sites that are transgressing xanga's Terms of Use. I prefer to think that. It makes me happier than to think they are simply irresponsible or uncaring. That would just be so unusual in today's world where everyone takes care of everyone else so lovingly.

  • I too have had and probably still have my own (outside of) xanga stalker. I go private on occasion but have not committed to full on yet. The stalker comes and goes. I understand your pain since I got a taste at facebook. What a pain. No matter, I enjoy when I see you around when ever or where ever that may be. (and reporting these freak shows to the social network powers that be does NO GOOD what so ever...)

  • @James -
I wouldn't wish the 4 years+ of it I had on anyone else. (Well...maybe ONE person...lol) It's sad, but Xanga doesn't seem to care, even with literal death threats made. It's slightly better now, there are some laws, when mine was full blown, there was no such thing as 'cyberbullies' and had I been a teenaged girl, well...I can see how they hang themselves.

  • @queenie - The really sad part is that people don't care. It's people who are behind the social network powers that be. It's a sad commentary on our world and our lack of compassion for our fellow beings. We whine about laws and government regulation but the governments do it because we truly are unwilling to govern ourselves. Such is life. Gays would have an even more horrible time if it weren't for laws. That's just sad. People are so ready and willing to hate with impunity.

  • @moniet - We're inviting disaster by not policing our own social societies.

  • @James -
Yes, for sure. Xanga refused to give us any way to keep anything and everything happening for years...it's because of the depths of the crap that went on on my site that we have what is here now. (Seriously, John said as much TO me in an email...) And that is sad, that it took an almost international incident to get something so simple as "Block user" or "Please don't let the spiders post my site on searches" or protected postings.

  • @moniet - Yeah, very sad.

  • Whatever happened to Random Acts of Kindness?

  • What ever happened to a lot of things, like the milk of human kindness or decency or personal responsibility?

  • @James - Doing my best to use what I have been given to make that step count...not only for me but for others...but then I am old and not of the "throw away" generation!

  • I strongly suspect that our society is self destructing. I've seen a lot of people (Both on and off Xanga) acting worse and worse. It's at its apex on the internet.

  • @nidan - Yes, I've seen it too. Others have pointed it out as well. The internet allows someone to create an image or personality behind which they feel they can act anonymously. When we feel the safety of anonymity we are able to act out our darkest side with impunity because we fail to understand the nature of the Universe and Its immutable laws. We really are doing to ourselves what we are doing to others.
